Credentials and Professional Experience:

Dr. Candace Allen-Staten is a Licensed Clinical Psychologist in the State of Georgia. Since 2007, she has completed postdoctoral training and employment in the states of California and Georgia. In California, she completed disability evaluations for persons of all ages. In Georgia, she provided individual and family therapy to adolescent and adult clients and completed parental fitness evaluations and full battery psychological evaluations, which were typically referred by the Department of Family and Children Services and the Department of Juvenile Justice. Dr. Allen-Staten successfully completed an American Psychological Association (APA) Pre-Doctoral Psychology Internship at the Child and Adolescent Abuse, Resource, Evaluation (CAARE) Diagnostic and Treatment Center in Sacramento, California. At the CAARE Center, Dr. Allen-Staten received specialized training in providing individual, conjoint, family, group therapy, and Trauma Focused Cognitive Behavior Therapy with children and adolescents with extensive trauma histories (i.e., child physical abuse, child sexual abuse, neglect, and grief). She also received training in completing Child Welfare Evaluations and full battery psychological evaluations at the CAARE Center. During 2007,

Dr. Allen-Staten earned a doctorate degree in Clinical Psychology from Wright State University, School of Professional Psychology (WSU-SOPP), which is a generalist doctoral program approved by the APA. At WSU-SOPP, Dr. Allen-Staten received specialized training in cultural diversity and in providing individual, group, and family therapy and full battery psychological evaluations to children, adolescent, and adult clients with a wide range of clinical concerns and diagnoses, including grief and trauma.

Dr. Allen-Staten earned a Master of Arts degree in Clinical Psychology from the University of Dayton (UD) during August of 2002. At UD, Dr. Allen-Staten was trained in providing mental health services to children and adolescents with serious emotional disturbances and in conducting empirical research.

Approach:

Dr. Allen-Staten typically utilizes the Psychodynamic Theoretical Orientation and Interpersonal Theories in which the relationship and interactions between Therapist and Client are used as a tool to facilitate dialogue, insight, growth, and change in clients. Moreover, the Psychodynamic Theoretical Orientation typically enables the Client and the Therapist to utilize their relationship, which tends to initially resemble the Client’s relationships with others, to work through the Client’s history and relationship conflicts. In therapy with adolescent females and women, Dr. Allen-Staten also tends to focus on issues that females typically encounter. Dr. Allen-Staten usually integrates Cognitive Behavior Therapy and Trauma Focused Cognitive Behavior Therapy with clients with histories of trauma, anxiety, depression, and poor anger control. Dr. Allen-Staten integrates Christianity and/or Spirituality in therapy when requested by clients. Dr. Allen-Staten also conducts and writes thorough and culturally competent psychological evaluations (i.e., psychological assessments, parent fitness evaluations, child welfare evaluations, etc…) for children, adolescents, and adults.
