Credentials and Professional Experience:

Elizabeth Appleby holds a Masters and Specialist degree in Education from Georgia State University. She started her counseling career in 1993 as an Elementary School Counselor. After leaving the school setting in 2001, Elizabeth completed her licensure requirements while working for a non-profit, in-home counseling organization.

Elizabeth has a great deal of experience working with children ages 3 to 10. She is registered as a Play Therapist by the Association for Play Therapy (APT) and is a member of the Georgia Association for Play Therapy. What is play therapy? The APT defines play therapy as “an interpersonal process wherein trained play therapists use the therapeutic powers of play to help clients prevent or resolve psychosocial difficulties and achieve optimal growth and development.” Why play therapy? As Dr. Gary Landreth, Founder of the Center for Play Therapy at North Texas University, said “Fish swim, birds fly, children play.” By providing toys to children, a therapist gives them the tools they need to express their thoughts and feelings and ultimately work through the issues that are causing them difficulty.
