About Divorce Mediation:

Mediation is an alternative method for negotiation of divorce, in which the couple ultimately makes the decisions regarding their future. The mediator is a neutral party trained to help the couple resolve the issues of their divorce.

Traditionally, divorce attorneys work out a settlement based on legal principle, but though mediation a couple gets to make the decisions and minimally have the legal system determine the guidelines of their divorce. The Mediator will help the clients communicate, in order to facilitate an understanding of the other persons point of view, ultimately leading to a negotiation of a settlement and keeping the couple in control of their own divorce.

Mediation is held in a comfortable environment, on dates and times that are convenient to the client. Mediation is especially beneficial for parents, who even after divorce will continue to make joint decisions regarding the future of their children.

Benefits of Mediation/Why Mediate:

  • Less expensive
  • Uses less time- not waiting on court date
  • Ethical and widely respected
  • Completely confidential –mediators will not appear before a court of law
  • Couple makes decisions regarding their future- -less likely to go back to court to fight about something.

About the Mediators:

Jennifer Lynn Thompson, LPC, NCC, CIRT, CAMS
Registered Mediator

Lynn is a Licensed Professional Counselor and a registered mediator. Lynn has worked with couples for ten years. Lynn’s desire to help couples led her to pursue a specialty in relationship counseling. However, she realized that in a majority of situations by the time the couple came to her for couples counseling one or both parties had already decided that they no longer wanted to work on the marriage. Therefore, Lynn wanted to provide a comprehensive solution for helping couples. This led her to pursue the training to become a mediator in addition to her career as a therapist.

Lynn uses her extensive silks and education to promote communication. Lynn’s profession as a counselor and a mediator helps the couple work through the negotiation process by utilizing her calm energy and wise guidance.

Lynn maintains a focus for resolution specific to each client.
