Mimi McDonald, LPC
Training and Experience:
Mimi McDonald is a Licensed Professional Counselor in the state of Georgia. She earned her Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from Bryan College and her Master of Arts in Marriage and Family Therapy with a specialization in Children and Adolescents from Richmont Graduate University. She has experience in special education with Severely Emotionally Behavior-Disordered children and as a resource teacher. Mimi received training in The Boys Town model of behavior management. She has experience working with adults, adolescents, and children providing individual, group, and family counseling for psychiatric and dual diagnosis individuals.
Approach:
As a counselor, she believes individuals need hope in order to begin the change process. Her goal in counseling is to help clients discover their individual strengths, identify and refute their dysfunctional thought processes, and improve communication skills. Mimi believes many problems arise from poor communication patterns that have been learned in the home. In order to bring healing and hope to individuals these pattern have to be modified or replaced. Mimi utilizes concepts from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Family Systems Therapy, and Brief Solution Focused Therapy to help clients in the change process.
