Credentials and Professional Experience:
Carrie Thompson is a Licensed Professional Counselor in the state of Georgia. She received her Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology from University of Georgia in Athen, Ga and a Master’s Degree in Community Counseling from Argosy University in Atlanta, Ga. Carrie is also a Nationally Certified Counselor. and a member of the Licensed Professional Counselors Association of Georgia and the Georgia Association of School Counselors.
Carrie has experience working with adults, adolescents and children in both individual and group settings. She also has experience in family counseling and assessment. Her experiences include working in schools, community mental health, residential treatment settings and private agencies. Her experiences include working with clients of all ages in areas including ASD, ADHD, learning challenges, adoption and family transitions, mood disorders, anxiety disorders, anger management and trauma.
Carrie uses an eclectic approach to serving the needs of each client. With a foundation in client centered therapy, Carrie provides understanding and support while while applying a variety of counseling theories to help each client overcome roadblocks and achieve their individual goals. Her work with children often employs play therapy and creative arts to allow a child to work through emotional, behavioral and academic challenges within their own developmental framework. With adolescents, teens and adults , Carrie draws from Cognitive Behavioral Strategies to assist individuals and families in recognizing and replacing unhealthy patterns , by learning and applying strategies to adjust thinking, address underlying emotions and create more productive behaviors. Carrie recognizes the importance of the overall family system, and provides education and support for parents, children, and young adults to improve relationships, manage life transitions, increase in confidence and success in academic and career environments and progress toward overall health.
