Credentials and Professional Experience
Lauren Pierre is licensed in the stage of Georgia as a professional counselor, and is a member of the Licensed Professional Counselors Association of Georgia (LPCAGA). She is a Nationally Certified Counselor and is a member in good standing with the National Board of Certified Counselors (NBCC). In addition, she is certified in Moral Reconation Therapy which is a curriculum designed for criminal offenders and substance abusers with criminal histories. Lauren earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in psychology from Vanderbilt University and a Master of Arts degree in Professional Counseling from Argosy University. In addition to the aforementioned affiliations Lauren is also a member of the American Group Psychotherapy Association (AGPA).
Over the last 10 years Lauren has offered individual therapy for adolescent girls and boys; adult men and women, and has facilitated group therapy and psycho-education for all of the above. She also has experience completing basic mental health assessments with diagnostic impressions; Biopsychosocial assessments, Child & Adolescent Functional Assessments (CAFAS), and other assessment tools that determine appropriateness for treatment (i.e, ASI-Lite, SASSI, etc.) She has worked in the community providing in-home services; in temporary group homes for youth, long term residential programs for youth, outpatient adult treatment programs, and adult residential treatment facilities. Half of her 10 years of experience has been addiction-specific, and she has provided substance abuse/dependence treatment for both youth and adults. Lauren also has a special interest in working with the family and loved ones of individuals recovering from addiction.
Lauren uses what is known as an integrative approach. She values the importance of building rapport with the client first. Then choosing a technique that is best suited for their particular strengths, needs, and capabilities. These methods include, but are not limited to, Motivational Interviewing, Person-Centered theory, Reality therapy, Cognitive-Behavioral therapy, Psychodynamic, and Solution-Focused theory. In a group setting Lauren combines therapy with psycho-education, and encourages the group members to facilitate their own exploration and evolution. Making each man or woman, boy or girl, the gatekeepers of their own change; and fostering a mutually supportive and safe environment that everyone is responsible for.
