Licensed Professional Counselor

Credentials and Professional Experience:

Linda Herring is a Licensed Professional Counselor in the State of Georgia and has held a professional license for over 4 years. She received her Bachelor of Science in Educational Psychology as well as a Master of Science in Counselor Education with an emphasis in Community Counseling from Mississippi State University.

Linda has extensive experience working with children, adolescents, and adults. Linda has worked in a variety of therapeutic venues, including hospital based outpatient, inpatient, partial hospitalization, and in-home settings. Prior to moving to Georgia, Linda worked at Johns Hopkins Hospital Community Psychiatry Department in Baltimore, MD. During her time at Johns Hopkins, Linda worked primarily with children and adolescents as well as their parents. She served as one of the founding team members that developed the hospital’s first Therapeutic Preschool Program, which specialized in working with preschool aged children (ages 0-5) with emotional and developmental disabilities. Linda was also co-leader of Johns Hopkins parenting groups, which supported parents of children who have been diagnosed with emotional or behavioral disorders. In addition, Linda’s professional experience includes working with adults and adolescents with mood disorders, anxiety disorders, ADHD, Oppositional Defiant Disorder, other mental health disorders, and addictive diseases.

Linda uses a variety of techniques to assist individuals and families through the therapy process. When working with younger children, Linda uses play therapy and family therapy to observe family dynamics and promote positive changes in the family’s relationships. Linda believes in teaching behavior modification techniques to her clients to create a more stable environment that allows children and parents alike to flourish. Although Linda primarily employs behavior modification and cognitive behavioral techniques with clients, she believes the clients’ needs should always come first and seeks to create a nonjudgmental, supportive environment to help facilitate positive change and promote family success.
